I know you have to lose to go to the other paths but on the ones where you have to defeat someone (Ex. Defeat Dabura on Chapter 2) how to i go to the other paths?

I got Dragonball z Shin budokai the other day and Its fun really fun.
But when I click on the Two player mode button It takes awhile and is says “Connecting to network” then when it’s done all it says is “Connected to the network” But all it does is the same thing when you start, that means it’s doing nothing. Can anyone Help?
